💫 Why Arches?
The arch creates organic curves, softening the sharp edges of things.
Flow and depth, create an innate attraction between vision and movement.
An excellent complement to a sofa, bed, reading chair, entry bench, or in a hallway.
Adds a high-end touch for little if any cost.
🧰 What You Need:
Materials Tools
Wall paint (base + arch color) Measuring tape
Painter’s tape Pencil
String or large compass Level
Small paint roller + brush Optional stencil (for patterns)
🎯 Step-by-Step Tutorial:
- Choose the Right Spot & Palette
Opt for the wall that will need to serve as the visual anchor-“behind the furniture” works best.
Select colors that contrast with your current wall: e.g., terracotta arch on cream; moss green on white; or muted pink on grey.
- Mark the Arch Base
Decide the width and height of your arch (generally between 3 and 5 feet wide).
The use of a level and measuring tape to mark out the base line.
- Draw the Arch Shape (No Freehand Wobble!)
Tie a pencil to a string and pin the other end at the center of your arch base — act like a compass.
Roll the pencil around to trace a perfect semi-circle.
Use painter’s tape for the vertical sides of the arch and freehand the first curve, or use flexible tape if you have it.
- Tape the Edges
Place painter’s tape along the outer edge of the vertical lines.
Lightly sketch it for the curve and paint carefully with a brush (or cut custom tape if you’re extra neat).
- Paint Carefully
One small roller is good for clean, even coats.
Start at the edges and work in the center.
Let it dry and if necessary do it again.
- Peeled, Revealed, Styled!
After it is completely dry, slowly peel the tape off to obtain those nice edges.
Finish the look with mirror, wall shelf, or artwork into the arch.
Places Very Suitable for Arches:
🛋️ Instead of a sofa or sectional
🛏️ Would work well above a bed for a pseudo headboard
🚪 In entryways, it would create a frame around the entry console table.
🎨 Would make a fun and colorful corner in kids’ rooms.
🧘♀️ Would make a great nook for meditating or reading.
💡 Tips for Design:
Add drama- a bold arch against a neutral wall.
Layer several arches (by overlapping or gradient tones) for depth.
Add small arch “windows” in a wall or staircase for that lovely touch.
Use as a zone divider in open-plan spaces.
Time and Cost:
Time: 1 -2 hours Cost: INR 500 – 1000 (Keeping some paint for later) Undemanding skill: Novice level (No art degree required) 😄.
