DIY Guide: Make an Elevated Bedside Table Plus Wall Brackets (Minimalist, Sleek & Space Saving)

Is your place getting too tight? Want something modern and minimalist? A floating nightstand is definitely the weekend DIY that both serves a purpose and looks nice.

It clears floor space, adds some character to the room, and looks so Pinteresty. And the best thing about it? You can very easily make it yourself-and within budget.

🧰 What You’ll Need:

Materials:

1 wood board (~14″x10″, or whatever fits your corner)

2 strong L-shape metal wall brackets (black or gold for the sleekness)

Screws and wall anchors (it is quite important for stability)

Sandpaper

Wood stain or paint (if you want color and finish)

Polyurethane sealer (for durability, optional)

Tools:

Drill

Level

Screwdriver

Measuring tape

Pencil

Step-by-step guide:

  1. Choose the wood and prepare it

Look for a hardwood or solid pine board to give strength. Sand down the edges and surface to make it smooth and splinter-free. If you are going to stain or paint it, do that now and then seal it if required.

Aesthetic tip (optional): Use edge banding to give plywood a finished clean edge.

  1. Identify Your Wall Spot

Hold the board by your bedside and find out the best height (generally within the 20- to 25-inch-from-floor range) to mount. Use a level and pencil mark the points where you will be placing the brackets.

  1. Mount the Wall Brackets

If not drilling into studs, use wall anchors for added strength especially when you are going to put heavy objects like booksym, lamps, etc. Screw the brackets to the wall and check that they are level and secure.

  1. Attach the Wood Board

Now center your wood board on top of the brackets. It’s making the perfect coffee table as it gets secure under-screw board into brackets.

It never hurts to double-check with your level to assure that the table isn’t crooked!

  1. Style Your Floating Table ✨

A nice small lamp, your favorite book, a candle, and maybe a mini plant or tray to keep it tidy and cozy.
