Neon Signs: Decorate Your Own with LED Strips.

Looking for a splash of color or personal accent to the interior? Neon signs are hefty with statements! True neon signs are costly and fragile, while DIY LED neon signs that are within budget, safe, and easy to make are in.

A little help with supplies, and the custom-made neon light will be in action, sprucing the whole place up.

Here is your fail-proof way of making an affecting LED neon sign:Β

🧰 Things You Will Need:

Materials:

LED strip light (choose silicone or rubber casing; it is easy to manipulate)

An acrylic or plastic sheet (clear or frosted depending on your mood)

Glue (choose a strong clear glue, for example, E6000 or super glue)

Craft wire (optional for holding the figure of the neon sign)

Scissors or utility knife (to cut the acrylic or the LED strip light)

Tape measure or ruler

Pencil or marker (for tracing your design)

Power adapter (if required by your LED strip)

Tools:

Hot glue gun (optional only if you wish to secure wires)

Screw-drivers (if any installation of the LED strip’s adapter is required)

Drill (if mounting it will be required to deed on your wall)

πŸͺš Complete Process:

  1. Pick a DesignΒ

Depending on the creative whims of your sign, it could say something fun like “Hello,” a motivational quote, or an outline of a heart or a star. The comment should consider that the possibilities are endless!

Tip: Simple lettering, therefore, is the best as it is easy to trace and to shape with the LED strip.Β

  1. Getting the Sheet of Acrylic or Plastic Ready

Cut your acrylic or plastic sheet to the size of your design. Go with the peeping-clear acrylic for a more transparent look or frosted acrylic for a smoother glow.

If your design consists of a letter or word, make a light tracing of it with a pencil or a marker on the acrylic sheet. Alternatively, the design can be printed out on a piece of paper and cut to be used as a template.

  1. Cutting and Shaping the LED Strip

Measure out the strip length needed for going around your design. Bend the lights, following the shape of your design, through those points made by either the crafting wire or a ruler.Β

At this point, the LED strip must be cut cautiously on the determined cutting lines. It is very important for the strip to be cut straight to efficiently join the pieces together without issues.

Finish molding-L stabilize the LED strip according to its design. Depending on the thickness and flexibility of your strip, you are able to bend it carefully around corners. If there are tight curves in your design use smaller segments of LED strip and connect together later.

  1. Mounting the LED Strip to the Acrylic

Attach the LED strip to the acrylic sheet using adhesive glue. Start at the tip and follow the lines that you have traced for your design to carefully glue the strip along those lines.

You may have to bend and press the LED strip slightly to follow the design for curvy lines.

It’s also possible to use craft wire to shape the LED strip as needed even for very elaborate designs. For tighter curves, wire can act as a frame while the LED strip follows the shape.

Notice: Use tiny glue dots to fix small parts and leave main parts of the LED strip to “float” for free movement.

  1. Connect and Power Up the LED Strip

Once the LED strip is attached, connect the power supply to the LED strip as per the instructions provided by the manufacturer. While some types of LED strips have plug-in adapters, others may require a different and more specialized setup.

Make sure everything connects well and then test the lights. Your neon sign should illuminate with beautiful bright colors!

  1. Mount Your Sign

To float a neon sign on the wall, then use the different hooks, nails, and adhesive wall strips to hang the acrylic sheet. Also for free-standing designs, make a small stand out of wood or craft materials.

Put the sign anywhere you feel fit, making sure it has easy access to an electrical outlet for power.

  1. Personalize Your Neon Sign (Optional)

Paint or decorate the edges of the acrylic sheet in spray paints. This will give an even more beautiful, additional effect to the room-themed facility.

Another use is for a remote-controlled LED strip for varying colors and brightnesses according to your mood or the time of day.
