📐 Step-by-Step: Build Your Hidden Storage Platform Bed
- Measure Your Mattress
Know the size of your mattress down to the 1″. (Queen: 60″x80″, King: 76″x80″, etc.)
Add 1″ to 2″ margin all around for “breathing” space and to facilitate mattress handling.
2. Build the Base Frame
Make a solid rectangular frame from 2x4s with a base several inches narrower than your mattress.
The weight is dispersed with this influence, raising the opportunity for houses to store away much easier.
💡 Want it lower?
3. Use thinner wood.
Go Ahead and Create Storage Compartments
Decide on the storage partitions you’d like (drawers, lift-up, cubbies).
Cut your plywood sheets accordingly and build box compartments.
Screw these onto the base using wood glue.
Do stay spaced out evenly; use spacers for this to keep the system in line.
- Attach Drawer Slides or Hinges
For pull-out drawers: attach slides along both sides of the drawer as well as the frame.
For lifts, we recommend using piano or soft-close hinges for safety and smoother operational flow.
🧰 Label each drawer part before assembly so that you can keep track of everything.
Top It Off
Cut a solid plywood sheet to fit over the entire top.
Be it attachment all through (if drawers are being used) or fixations in terms of lift-up with some hinges.
Sand and round off the edges for safety to the user and nicer appearance.
Sand, Paint, or Stain
Smooth all surfaces and fill any gaps or screw holes with putty.
Then paint or stain with your choice of coloration.
The tops will eventually need to be married with clear polyurethane, helping present an allure that has a more polished look while maintaining an enhanced durability.
