Where Sustainability Meets Artistry
For Sophie Laurent, the artist and eco-enthusiast, creating a home was not just about the visuals; it was about the story. Her loft-style apartment is right in Brooklyn, where eco-friendliness is intertwined with artistic expression. Moreau having quite an established name as an interior designer collaborated with Laurent, and together, the two transformed what feels like an art gallery into a proper sanctuary.
βThe best homes tell a story,β states Moreau. βWe wanted Sophieβs home to reflect her values, her love for nature, and her appreciation for handcrafted pieces.β

A Conversation Through Design
Upon entering the loft, the first impressions relate to the play on textures and materials. Walls gently infused with earthen tones are finished with a clay-based paint that works naturally with the environment, controlling humidity. The handmade wooden bookshelves are by Laurent and built entirely from salvaged timber. These line one side of the living room, displaying her collection of handmade ceramics and little found objects.
Most noticeable is the central fireplace made from reclaimed stone. βFireplaces, more than anything, evoke an elemental charm. We wanted this one to feel as if it’s always been here, aged by the elements,β says Moreau.

Peopling Away Happiness
The charm of the house owes itself not merely to the design but equally to the people who made it happen. The reclaimed wooden floor was sourced and given a new life by artisan Camille Devereaux, whose practice involves nurturing materials forgotten long ago. Rivas’ fixtures made from recyclable metals and blown glass are equally sculpture and function, a creation of the smith, who handmade the pieces for the house.
Laurent was highly involved in the designing of the coffee table, the living room centerpiece cast in bronze, echoing her sculptural work. “I wanted something that felt both organic and industrial, a reminder of the raw materials we generally take for granted,” she says.

User Experience at Its Core
It is certain that this area is beautiful work of art, but also it is made for day-to-day living, such as creating way for conversation-sitting spaces, fitted with energy-efficient appliances in the kitchen, and a wonderful area for rest-painted in that color, which would otherwise be soothing-forest-green.
All these items in the house are purposely selected not only for their view but for their experience. The custom linen draperies filter in just the right amount of light, while the handcrafted wool mats give warmth underfoot. Even the bathroom boasts artisanal, hand-glazed tiles that transform ordinary routines into something special.

A Home That Speaks of Future
Laurent’s apartment does not at all define living; instead, it becomes a space where the future could be seen in home design. This has fused sustainability with artisanal craft in a way that reflects the old and looks forward.
“Home mirrors who we are and along with it reflects the world we desire and want to build,” she expresses. “Everything here tells a story, and every story matters.”
With several homeowners this day combining sustainability with style, the one thing that stands tall and clear is that the most beautiful spaces are those built with passion, purpose, and those hands that bring them into life.
